Keys to our Serve Receive

bullet

The Libero (our best passer) is placed in the Middle of Serve Receive in 4 of the 6 Rotations.

bullet

We always want our best passer passing the most Serves as possible.

bullet

Our Outside Hitters (our other best passers) and Libero Serve Receive in every Rotation.

bullet

This reduces confusion.  Everyone always knows who the passer are.

bullet

We place our Setter inside the 10' area in 5 of the 6 Rotations.

bullet

This places her close to the Setter area and keeps her out of the way of the passers.

Rotation 5

bullet

We start each game in Rotation 5 because this gives our #1 Outside Hitter (OH 1) three opportunities to attack in the Front Row.

bullet

Our # 2 Middle Blocker (MB 2) has the option to attack either on the Rightside or in the Middle.

Rotation 6

bullet

If MB 1 is also our #1 Attacker, we can start each game in Rotation 6 instead.

bullet

OH 1 and MB 1 both have the option to attack on the Outside or in the Middle.

Rotation 1

bullet

This is the only Rotation where our Setter starts in the Back Row.

Rotation 2

bullet

OPP and MB 1 have the option to attack either on the Rightside or in the Middle.

Rotation 3

bullet

OH 2 and MB 2 both have the option to attack on the Outside or in the Middle.

Rotation 4

bullet

MB 2 has the option to attack either on the Outside or in the Middle.

Base Defense

bullet

Libero (L)- Middle/Middle

bullet

We place our Libero in the middle of the back row to get the most touches.

bullet

Outside Hitters and Setters/Opposites- 2 x 2

bullet

We place these players 2 feet inside the side line and 2 feet behind the 10' line to get tips and over feeds.

bullet

Blockers- Bunch Read

bullet

Bunch: Start more in the middle of the net to triple block any high middle sets.

bullet

Read: Watch the setter and then move to where the attack is.

Eye Work (nothing to link to)

bullet

This is a huge concept when it comes to our Defense.  It's what everyone Sees on our team that makes us work together on Defense.  If we all See the same things, the better our Defense will be.

bullet

Passer-Ball-Setter-Ball-Hitter.  This is the progression of where our eyes will move to and then focus on when the ball is on our opponents side of the net.

bullet

What is the Passer doing to make the first contact?  This first touch is the most important touch our opponents will make because it decides what type of play will send the ball back over to us.  Such as an Attack or Freeball.

bullet

Watch the Ball to see where it's going.  Is it a good or bad pass?  How many setting options does the setter have, 3, 2, 1, or none?

bullet

If it's passed to the Setter and they have more then one option, we must See what type of set it is and where it's going.  Maybe the Setter will attack the ball and not set it at all.

bullet

Watch the Ball to see where it's going.  Is it a good set?  Can the attacker hit the ball?

bullet

Once we know where the ball has been set, we need to focus on the Hitter to see what type of attack they are going to make.  It may be a perfect set but they may still tip it.  Or maybe the Hitter isn't in position to make a good swing.

bullet

The bottom line is every contact our opponents make are opportunities for us to get in better position to make better plays.
